Playground Draft Feedback

What happens to new, returning, or “unacceptable” Leaders whom want to sharpen their skills & experience in leading families, but are ostracized by not being allowed to play?
I mean there’s a sign-up so if you’re not satisfied with leader selections then select to lead.
And show some professionalism. In the real world I work with people of all types & genders and we get along fine.
Communication is the key.
Instead of being separatists- Find ways to play & work together in alliance with one another within your families & spread that to larger play in The Bigger Picture of Our Community.

@OrBit Critiques are great. Be constructive. Every day I practice being a better person & player than I was previous days & years before. I like growth and change. I embrace it.
Doing the same things & expecting different results is insanity.
I don’t believe the Hype- To me, It looks like certain players want to keep a Status Quo.
Diversity, Variations, and Anomalies are natural & acceptable to me.

@Swagga I agree, I don’t think it’s a good thing for us to be so exclusionary of who we “allow” to participate in these things.

A nomination system could be a good middle ground.

We hit that in the most recent round. It’s on the captains at that point to organize trades or work internal diplomacy.

Players getting drafted by a team they don’t want is an inherent risk in this kind of draft. There’s no way to prevent it entirely, but there are things we could do to deter it. For example, if a players goes inactive we could make them ineligible for the next Playground round.

I feel the whole setup is the issue, I mean there is many reasons professional sport leagues do not use a school yard setup like this.
Having chosen leaders that pick there favourites has never been a good idea past garde three lets be real guys.
You will find many issues and continue to with this setup i believe.
I feel with this setup player’s are almost asking permission to play and if a new player coming into the game gets that feel that won’t stick around.

This could also be utilized to make certain player’s go inactive and not be allowed to play the next round.

We aren’t a professional sports league though. Professional athletes have salaries, amongst other things. They aren’t allowed to “go inactive”, because it’s their job to play.

When it comes to required participation, we are much closer to a third grade football game than we are to professional sports.

That said, do you have a suggestion on how you think we should do it instead?

I appreciate how much the staff listens to the community but I think it is almost overdone. Last round was lousy, four fams was boring. Even with drafts fams were uneven. There were what, 3 wars throughout the whole galaxy for the whole round? But the community collectively voted again for the same thing. I think Pie should trust his instincts, decide what would make for an intriguing and engaging round and just run with it.

If I were IC czar I would run 4 man full random fams. I think players are more invested in the round when they play a bigger role in their family. Teams of 3 or 4 would be ideal. A banker, ressor and attacker is all you need. More fams = more wars and more options. Playing a 2 fam round and then a 4 fam round right after has really killed the buzz IC was generating for a bit.

Ya that three man fam a while back was fun.

And large fams are hard to keep people engaged.

I agree with pickle here

Yeah don’t let anyone be a leader. It kills the game

Lets do full draft 3 man fam then. Typically leads to a great fun round

I honestly would prefer small family members and an increased amount of family’s to contest with makes it more interesting.

You have a low amount of actual family’s then as soon as 1 gets the edge the round is over the current round was over well over a week ago so.

Plus with lots of family’s people get to do things they normally wouldn’t so they learn and understand more which will eventually push up the quality

Having 3-4 person families though, isn’t it potentially a case where if one goes inactive then its game over?

I’m for 4+ Player Fams.
There’s most always BumbleClot Noobs who join & go inactive. That’s a risk of play. Try to draft wisely.

pick by number, every family has a ‘leader’ spot, if your number is picked in the ‘leader’ spot, then you’re the leader.

fam 1
1
2 leader spot
3

fam 2
1
2
3 leader spot

fam 3
1 leader spot
2
3

Keeps the buzz of the ‘lottery’ and then avoids having self appointed leaders. Could be fun to make some different people lead.

Has there ever been a round where it’s solo but you can have multiple empires.

3 empires per family, but all controlled by the same person. 1 Banker, 1 Res and 1 Attacker.

I dunno, ask daffy

I’m confused am I a leader ??

I kind of agree it’s ok to pick your fav players because drafts can happen anyway but I think the process could be more random in a sense idk, I was thinking like voting on leaders, but what if we had a random draft 1 pick then one vote
So the players vote who they want to play with ? Just a suggestion idk.,
Or maybe have players vote what team they want to play on if everyone wants on one team then that leader picks first or if only one guy wants to play for your team you have to pick him on your turn if you have noone you pick last from everyone.

Pre selected leader’s in my eyes does not change much since you can always select your leader anyways. Some rounds will always be boring some will be fun the leaders are not the issue behind boring rounds.

The main issue making it hard for fair and even rounds is activity, it is key and makes all the difference in a round. We need to find a way to equalise the activity across families or find a way to balance things without relying so much on who lands where.
we could have players say there activity level and experience level and have the selected leaders vote on those they would want in there family and then have a trading round to even things out before round start?

This may take in-game changes like bonuses to families that just lost a war and peace time in between wars or a player honor code to be actually written and enforced by the players themselves

Drawing straws would be my suggestion lol just keep it random and let pie do what he thinks is best.
