Milky Way 65 Setup Polls

Instructions

Note: Final results will be based on the vote tallies but may not necessarily reflect every winning option. Tied results will be decided on a case by case basis.

You only have to vote about the options you care about. Some polls have an option labeled as “other”. If you choose this, please also post a comment specifying your choice.

Some Considerations

Map Size

The map is going to be increased to 200x200, however the system density will be unchanged. This means that the galaxy will feel more spacious, which will make speed more valuable for attackers, and portals more important for everybody.

Plan your races and team setups accordingly!

This is going to a poll after all. See @Picklearmy and @zerohedge’s points and the following poll option.

Family Size

MW64 ended up with 14 spots per fam. We’re going to drop this to at most 8, but will also consider even smaller families but only if we allow mid-round assimilation.

12 fams of 8 is a safer bet, but there are definitely advantages to having 25 fams of 4 instead. We just have to make sure we have a safety net for players who will eventually be in a bad spot due to inactive family members.

Note that we will also consider assimilation by request instead of by threshold. There will be a poll option below.

Delay

We’re going to send an email out before this round starts, but this process isn’t yet automated and given my own workload (day job) and schedule I don’t yet know when this will happen. As a result, the round open and start may be somewhat delayed.

“Stay in Family”

There’s been much discussion on super fams, and we’re going to make an adjustment here: we are treating “stay in family” as “chance to stay in family”, meaning players who pick this option won’t be guaranteed to actually land with their former teammates.

This will happen now, not next round. This will likely and understandably upset some people but everybody will benefit more if we can balance the competition a little. Your understanding is appreciated.

Limited Draft Spots

We are reducing draft spots, and the “stay in fam” people that end up together will only get 1 additional draft as they are effectively already pre-drafted compared to new random families. Random-based families will receive 3 draft spots.

Presets

The following settings will not be voted on:

  • Unofficial Alliances: NOT Allowed
  • Round Length: 6 Weeks
  • Morale: Enabled

Family Sizes and Assimilation

Assimilation means that a family will be disbanded and its members distributed to other families.

  • By threshold: the smallest family will disband automatically if they fall below a (TBD) preset size differential. This may happen multiple times per round.

  • By request: any family can request to be disbanded unless 50% or more of their members object to it.

Please note: the vote counts for options B and C will be combined to determine if assimilation will happen at all.

  • A: 12 families of 8, no assimilation
  • B: 25 families of 4, allow assimilation (by threshold)
  • C: 25 families of 4, allow assimilation (by request)

Chance to Stay In Family

This option determines whether or not players have a chance to stay in the same family across multiple rounds.

  • Yes - Allow players a chance to stay with the same family in future rounds

Thanks!

Can you elaborate on the system density? It will have the same amount of systems as the 120x120 map?

If so I feel this will make for a boring round… waiting longer for eships to land, pass planets, and attacking sounds like a step in the wrong direction. Speed was already valuable for attackers in the 120x120 map. When Cassius and I played our Custom Red Rising galaxy, the system density was low and it made for a lousy round… waiting 5 hours with 100% speed to attack the closest system was excruciating and we ended up ending the round early as a stalemate, as it would take weeks to have a decent amount of attacks.

Also, for anyone voting for a 7 day attack delay, I suggest you re-consider.

I know it may seem like a 7 day attack delay gives you time to work on eco without fear of being attacked early on, but what it really does is allow big families to portal in your core during those 7 days, and rip you apart when the attack delay is lifted.

With a 48 hr delay, you can at least protect and clear your core before they can set up on you.

i agree. traveltime between the systems should be same, or everyone must play camaar

Lol, attackers at least.

Closest system from my HS this round was 3 tics with 100% speed, with the map doubled that would be 6 tics with 100% speed… so for bankers with no speed that would be 12 tics to explore the closest system. Don’t do this to us Pie!!! :scream:

I picked custom fleet… as I’d like to see 32 eships and 40 trans added to the starting fleet, to speed things up a little

Always open to discussion

This change came out of criticism that the existing map is too small, and an increase could add more depth to attacking.

Would love to hear any counter-points to @Picklearmy’s suggestion.

dont do this to us, pie :frowning: fam cooperation, i.e. building for others cant be done anymore then… i asked u for more planets but not longer traveltime… so if u add a few planets per system that would do it

Yea this was probably from players coming back and remembering the huge 4 sector maps. I would like a bigger map too tbh, I just don’t want huge gaps between systems. I think the average distance between systems should be ~3 tics with 0 speed.

I think double the map with double the systems, but HALF of the planets would be a good alternative.

Agreed

team pickle

I feel like a tween!

but u are an old man with lots of hair

Alright let’s throw this into a poll too then. Can’t hurt.

  • 200x200, same amount of systems, more space (and increased travel time) between them
  • 200x200, more systems, same amount of space (and travel time) between them
  • 120x120, no change from last round

maybe u could explain it with the traveltime, ppl will not exactly know what they are voting for and not everybody is reading the conversation for the context

I adjusted the options to add some clarity.

This is not really upsetting me, but what is upsetting me is the way your not being consistent in the way you push changes. Earlier, when people asked for changes you said you introduce changes through the poll becoming active the round after, and now suddenly you immediately introduce a change nobody asked for?

On the change itself:
I don’t understand this… this means the only thing that determined our choice (stay or delete), is now also an uncertainty… Because if I try to stay in family, and it doesn’t work, but our drafts stay, I will not be able to get drafted in, so eventually, it will just cause me to random, end in a family that feels like a disappointment, and go inactive for a round, better luck next time.
Conclusion: I think this is a really bad idea, unless the determinators for staying or being forced to random/draft are disclosed (like, if fam size stays the same, no problemo). And the draft bug is fixed, otherwise this will just encourage people to draft more than the draft limit allows, and if you don’t run your mouth, there is nothing admins can do about it.

i thought he means in future rounds, so not the coming round, the coming round is stay or delete

Fam size and assimilation question should be split.
I think families should have the option of assimilation, but i want a fam size of 8
