If you want to speed up the game why not add rock paper scissors for extra gold or for funereal or guys that find the game too hard or have ads that you can click for extra gold to help with revenue instead of changing the game. Go find another game if you don’t kike this one , secondly to complicated ? To time consuming ? Have you played morrowwind or total war any real video games? You want new players I can get them here but after 10 mins of these losers all the time between discord and forums and the harassment they gonna leave. People don’t want to play a game that needs things like discord to play I’m telling you right now pull your head out of your arse, Pie was here way before you guys and atleast he helps new players and makes it possible to actually play the game instead of harrassing you to go on discord and Marking you as inactive because you don’t answer him or go on Discord it’s costing us players end of story.
I’ve brought in atleast 5 players like Tish or the guy from Cantr over the last couple years and they all leave cause you guys are Bird’s. 
@OrBit since I started playing again, 2 of my last 3 rounds were in fairly competitive families, including a stint with @HydroP and @SpartanLegion (hellz), which isn’t a first for me either. If you’re suggesting that these players are bottom-tier, you’re quite the noob yourself.
I don’t need to “learn IC”, I’ve been here for going on 20 years acting in more roles than you can fathom, leading fams and alliances alike. I’ve spanked players that you couldn’t touch, so spare me that nonsense please. If I didn’t know any better I’d think you’re projecting your own inadequacies. 
Also, the staff changes have nothing to do with the honor code. The staff was never responsible for enforcing any official honor code, even if they wanted to. This was true even when I was modding under Stefan. You’re just pointing fingers for the sake of it and showing a willing ignorance of our history.
Players have been complaining about honor for as long as IC has been online. You can see forum posts from 2001 about nap breakers, dishonorable players, and cheaters. This is nothing new, and was always specifically a player matter, otherwise mods would be intervening when players break NAPs which we all know is absurd.
That said, you are absolutely correct about this:
That is where most of my time is going right now. IC needs so many things but at the very top of the list is removing my involvement. The game needs to run itself, and like you and @Funeral are saying, with quicker and easier play.
Trust me when I say I want this just as much as everybody else. That’s why I’m spending time on my vacation to rework the galaxy creation code: so that we can get rid of this cumbersome forum vote situation and let the game handle itself without manual oversight.
Once we do that, we can scale. That also sets the stage for us to properly split the tick and let players set up their own quick games, invite others for “flash” rounds, and lower the barrier of entry for a wider audience.
You did say that part right: automated, quicker, and easier. That is our future.

I am pretty sure I remember forum posts from before the rnd 3 crash complaining about someone being dishonorable and that person fighting back that there was no honour code inforced by by rules and so didn’t mean shit… complaints about farming and 2v1 or 3v1 or illegal Alliances were more common then… hell we had complaints about illegal drafting to stack fams or tris and whiningbthat getting too many “n00bs” or inactive ruined a round
That was all because we had more players, which also meant more chance to climb back… now we don’t have the player base so to me this is where the need for a community based code of conduct on how the game is played… something that helps provide competitive games for the top players, but also something that allows for social play to have a chill round, or to support new or returning players

Literally just shouting endless nonsense into a void you pal
I tried to return to the game after being gone for 10 or so years. Played a good 10 years before that, so essentially in the game already for some 20 years. Ended top 4 of Tri/Andro/MW with fams, and used to big wars and big economies, collaborating with a family to get to the top. A fun and sociable experience.
What do I return to now? 5 instead of 20-30 player families, small maps, and 5 instead of 25 planets per system. All fine, I thought! The game shrunk, it’s retro. Cool. Let’s play! Different than before, but still nice.
But what happens? I end in a family where I get a message from a guy that does not want to be the leader and wants to play solo, but has made some naps… No problem, I stay away from the fams he naps because I want to honor those.
He then goes completely anal on me for trying to grab a few planets from non-napped families early in the round, and starts telling me to explore only close to home. I kindly explain that I am an attacker and want good spread, so I explore wherever I want so I get good spread to attack around and have some fun. I take 2 planets from a random family, and the guy (who does not want to be the leader but wants to solo) starts messaging me that he will declare me rogue.
He goes as far as saying that he will declare me rogue if the other family retaliates on the early grabs I did. Are you reading this? I am a rogue of my family if another family retaliates on a few grabs. Let that sink in, especially people who have been with the game for a bit longer. Is that what imperial conflict is now about?
Great going, the game lost another player (again) because the remaining players are apparently not sociable nor able to respect that others play in a different way than they do (not breaking ANY rules likes naps etc.). Way to go to get people on board (again).
Can copy/paste message logs with this guy if needed, but feel like enough is said. Sad stuff.

I’d urge you not to base your opinion of the player base on one experience with one player. Every family I have been in since my return has been heavily collaborative and worked closely together.

Put me In charge , lose the discord as much as possible , bring back the family forums, make highscores appear on home page top ten, always have a galaxy running , have pie greet new players in game and maybe a trusted person to help them navigate the game teach them the ropes, make it more fun using PMs roleplay more make it exciting for them for a start there’s lots more I would do but it’s a start I would suggest removing rogue and inactive if you have a problem file a complaint let game staff fix it , so much I would change but game play isn’t really on the list . Also suggest a standard round fixed rules that don’t change old school rules with a blackout on any external chats ban people caught using them permanently from that galaxy
Discord also takes away the fun , too much information once they find out your all in a discord gang and who you are and all about you they lose interest people like mystery a chat full of birds loses its luster fast.
Allot of the fun from back in the day was using IRC, having hidden chats, being semi anonymous, and being able to “own” your own rooms to do what you want.
Outside of that, I think family comradery and the competition part was what made the game really fun.

@Funeral it’s funny you should mention live streaming, that’s a specific goal I have in mind for smaller games. I intend to play on Twitch and even commentate on other matches, and publish both on YouTube as well.
@OrBit I’ll make you a deal: as much as I’d like to flex in game, it’s more important that I keep my focus on finishing the dev work I’m doing right now. That’s why currently I’m only playing casually and anonymously.
I’ll gladly join you though, in the same family or against each other with galaxy settings of your choosing. I’m looking at the following for a bare minimum for me (and hopefully others) to partake in matches where we can really demonstrate our skill:

Revamped galaxy creation for standard galaxies (in progress, will set the stage for revised custom galaxy creation)

Party/friend system to replace draft system

Split tick for shorter-ticked custom galaxies (think of it like other online games: being able to play a round or even multiple in a single night)
When these 3 things are completed, let’s give it a go.

Why all the hate on discord? It’s a chat program just like any other chat program. Does it have differences? Sure they all do, but you are simply throwing out your preference of a chat system…if that is the case, go use said chat system lol. Convince people your way is better rather than trying to convince the owner of the game to ban all forms of chat and implement only the one that you want. You sound like a silly far-left/far-right nutjob. My families always use WhatsApp for our communication (ask Pie he found that out a couple rounds ago) and will use discord as a family forum of sorts to log information for long term use and editing.
On to that note, I do know you have said in the past you won’t be bringing back family forums @I_like_pie, I know you probably said why. But could you repeat it? Cause personally I am not seeing why having them is somehow a bad thing from a player perspective anyway.
As for why people leave the game, trying to throw a single reason for all players leaving is silly, nonsensical and just outright stupid. Sure whatever reason any of you throw out may account for a percentage of players leaving, but I would put money that it would end up being a small percentage at best. The most likely cause is that this game takes a lot of time and effort and generally speaking, people do not want to give up a lot of that only to get their asses handed to them in a war (fair or not).
Also @FUTUREAL if you do not like what your voted leader has decided to do to you, get him voted out. But keep in mind that other families might decide to smash the SS players in your fam for your actions and they would probably prefer not to have that happen. So to preserve their own rounds, they will sacrifice yours. It’s basic really…

Fam forums aren’t permanently gone, but there was an access issue that I wasn’t able to quickly resolve that ended up causing more problems and confusion than they were worth. There was also a degree of manual work involved that I couldn’t justify anymore given their limited usage.
I would love to bring them back at some point though if I can fully automate their setup.
