Update: Battle Rewrite!

It’s been a very long time coming, but I just rolled out a massive rewrite of the battle functionality. This was standing in the way of many much needed improvements and bug fixes.

WARNING: Things may break!

I have tested these changes quite a bit, but the nature of the situation is higher risk than usual.

it’s very possible that new bugs will present themselves, as this was some IC’s oldest and most sensitive code.

If you do notice anything strange, please do not hesitate to make a post in #support:bugs. Your patience during this transition phase is appreciated.

What changed, and what’s next?

In terms of game features, nothing has changed (yet). Everything should work exactly how you’re used to, and if it doesn’t, it is likely a bug.

You should, however, notice that triggering fleets is much faster than before. This is the first of many benefits to come, and we’re now within reaching distance of things like:

There’s much more than that, but this should show you the kind of flexibility we are gaining here. With that in mind, this is a great time to think creatively about how we can improve long-standing flaws with this aspect of the game. Your thoughts are welcome in #support:ideas.

Loving the idea of saved battle reports - these would really help inform analysis of fleet sizes and changes over time.
