Official Alliances

@I_like_pie

Walk me through this part please.
I am in your family, and I display that I am allied to your next target - under what (legitly overwhelming) circumstances would you not kill me out so I don’t feed everyone your family news - … - well at least before you (one would think - invariably) kill me out?

Honestly, I’m not sure I get this at all. So, how do wars play out then? I mean, if everyone on your team is in an alliance with whoever. Your fam members will have alliances everywhere. How does ward work then? I’m probably just totally missing something here being new lol.

And if you’re kind of just allied to who you want anyway ( essentially making your own family with whoever you want anyway) why do you start out in a family to begin with? I think im confused lol

You and me both.
I am prolly not thinking out of the box enough, I am really struggling to conceptualize it.

I don’t think that level of detail around how was decided yet.

But I thought a simple solution would be to replace family page with alliance pages, ie alliance news, alliance council etc.

Then could have players who start in the same system start in an alliance, that you can leave or stay, vote, be removed from etc.

If you keep families system and alliance then you need to remove current family leader powers, voting, restrict family news and council and potentially double up those items in the gui

That’s a good description of the approach.

The easiest way to think about it is that in this setup, your family will no longer be your team. They will simply be players who share your home system.

No team means:

  • No sending aid
  • No shared news
  • No shared council
  • No leader

What still may be preserved:

  • Family page
  • Family ranking
  • Family forum

The details are subject to change, but the idea is that players don’t have to stick with their family members but may find it advantageous due to proximity. So you may have family members who are also in in your alliance, but just the same may have family members who become rivals.

@Darrk to answer your question specifically, regardless of news, players will not be able to kill each-other off unless it’s a HC round. Players could therefore find themselves stuck with an enemy in their home system. That’s less a problem without shared news but is still a risk, and players would need to adapt their strategies accordingly.

How players actually do adapt remains to be seen. We won’t know how it actually plays out until we do it, and we can always adjust as necessary.

I like this question.

The idea will be to present you with a choice; do you want to discuss alliance options with your immediate neighbors or do you want to leave them be and ally with your friend 50 ticks away? Both? It’s up to you!

It’s a way to give some flavor to the experience as you join. Instead of being totally alone, you’ll start with some people around you and adapt as you like. This won’t happen with #infinitum as it will be a “solo” galaxy (no families) but not every galaxy will forego families entirely.

I still would prefer that
a) Everyone gets their own home system.
b) Eliminate families and go with alliances as the new ‘families’

On second thought, this is a good answer @I_like_pie

I do quite like the idea of players starting with more immediate explorable spaces. I can see a setup where we can have both. For example, a home system where everybody gets 3 reserved planets to themselves.

One thing that could fix a lot of issues people are raising would be to enable empires to somehow move their hs to be with their alliance.

Home systems could either be like a Defence station and be slowly moveable or have some kind of option to “move to alliance” where some circumstances must be met where the game would place them within some distance from the alliance core, similiar to how a lot of mobile games work, so you would have to be accepted as part of the alliance first, could be a mechanic of alliance end where leader or vl can opt them in.

Just read this

It’s a terrible idea. For me. So hold ur horses.

Can we also have a dislike vote so others can have a vote?

Share home systems with players who arent in ur fam or alliance? No aid? No coordinating? Then compare it to the families who play together…

Rogue heaven is what this is. And ruining other people’s round. Are we trying to fast track our way to killing the fun even more?

This has always been a family based with alliances game. Period.

Smh

Who’s brilliant idea is this? And 6 votes? Please please let us have a vote against this.

I am in agreement with Hellz.

If people want solo play where you ally whoever you want, that is what Supernova was made for. What is the point of putting people into families and making them individual? It creates more problems than it can ever fix. Just make Supernova where you can ally whoever you want and then can direct aid them like you are in the same fam.

The essence of this game has always been groups of players made into fams that work together with one goal. MW has always embodied that vision even with its flaws.

Dont ruin MW…i vote no

I’ve had my concerns about this matter, however, I know that it will be given a trial run, or two, or three, in a test galaxy first.

Maybe it will be a disaster. Maybe it will be awesome and change the game’s dynamics in a fun, challenging way.

Either way, I doubt there is any rush to implement it within the MW galaxy, the flagship of IC.

Yep, this will be tested heavily, like any major change.

Would the Alliance number of players be capped?
I can see 1 alliance having 50% of the players in it.

Can you leave your alliance - is there a cooldown period that limits offensive actions?
I can see some people inviting people to their alliance, getting shares then killing them.

Yeah, I anticipate some kind of cap, but we won’t know specifics until we test around a bit there too.

Cooldown sounds like a useful idea. :+1: Will keep that in mind.

As for others and voting, the things here in #roadmap:to-do are planned features; feedback is welcome, but voting against it isn’t going to make any difference. However, this is going to be built in as a galaxy option meaning we can keep it out of MW, at least initially, as we evaluate its impact and whether or not it meets its goals.

My knee jerk reaction here is “hell no” but I said that about other things too.

BUT, if anything has been proved lately, is that with some free time @I_like_pie is coming up with all kinds of shit that is awesome.

Let’s give a ninja a chance to show us what he has running around in his noodle.
