Mod in milky way

Incorrect they ruined there round by refusing to nap and saying they will just opp us all round . They ruined there round by doing 0 retakes having 0 defenses and refusing diplo chat.

From a distance if it looks like a duck and quakes like a duck it could be a grebe or a loon

Notice how we have not once attacked the new ss players in the family? Nope you haven’t just make assumptions from the sidelines

I agree 100%, but you are mistaking in-game role-playing standards with community standards. They are very different things. This is ultimately a matter of game design.

Here’s an example: there’s a game called Mafia that is highly dependent on role-play, but more interestingly, deception. Lying and manipulating others is part of the game, as is protecting others, depending on your role. You bet your ass it can get nasty, and it’s frustrating, and it involves brazenly lying to your friends which normally would be considered a very bad thing if not downright sociopathic.

But in the context of the game, it’s acceptable and even encouraged. It’s the only way the game can actually work, as it’s inherent in the game’s design. It’s baked in.

Poker is the same way. What you’re asking for is the same as asking somebody who hosts poker night to never power through other players because they are a host and should ā€œlead by exampleā€. That’s not a realistic or a fair expectation; as long as they are not violating game rules they should play however they want.

Imperial Conflict is also the same way: playing aggressively, or even as a ā€œbad guyā€ is 100% acceptable behavior for any player, so long as they are not violating game rules. Our best lore includes family legacies that were feared (Harkonnen, Tortuga Nebula Thugs, etc). This fear can’t exist if there is forced mercy. Giving players the freedom to be ā€œmeanā€ in their style is extremely important to the social aspect of IC’s gameplay and its depth. Honor itself has no meaning if it’s forced.

It’s especially important that Moderators are not directed to play any specific way, otherwise we are treating Moderators differently than other players, which would lead people to (rightly) think that Mods get special treatment. They shouldn’t.

Mods should get no perks while they play, nor should they be held to any different standard than a regular player. Within the game, they should be indistinguishable from non-staff.

You have an issue with @TheBigOne the Player, and that’s totally fine. That also has nothing to do with @TheBigOne the Moderator.

That’s not accurate. I can’t speak for every mod during Stefan’s ownership, but I know I myself wasn’t modded because of my in-game behavior. As fair and ā€œhonorableā€ as I was in game, when I was hired it was because of my community (as in, out-of-game) contributions. My in-game play style had nothing to do with it.

There’s a necessary split between in-game and out-of-game. This is why really intense attackers can be ruthless and hated in-game but still super cool and liked in chat and forums. Just the same, a player can be the most aggressive and merciless player in the game and still be Staff material. IC is partially about role-play, and ā€œplaying niceā€ isn’t a job requirement for Staff.

We lead by example by not violating the rules. Everything else is fair game, as it should be.

well looking it at the situation we are discussing right now witht he farming issue, it seems to me it all started in the community and was taken to game play. As i know this game community and gameplay goes hand in hand, and lines get blured very fast.
The guys acting as dicks ingame are ofter the same guys acting as dicks in chat also. imo

Ur again pulling the discussion towards rules and regulations, we agree the rules are even for all.

Well pie we know your were modded, and saying your play style had nothing to do with it is bold statement but,and you are sure it wasnt slightly part of the package? but if we look at al the other mods in your time in IC, can u mention one that didnt share in a way you fair and ā€œhonorableā€ way of playing. becouse i truly cant and i knew and played with a fair share of them also you and i definiatly understand why you were moded

So what your saying to your staff is, as long as you do your job, I am totaly fine if you act like dicks ingame :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s why we have written rules; to help keep that line clear.

There’s surely some overlap, but there are exceptions too. Besides, what does ā€œbeing a dickā€ mean? If you ask somebody getting stomped in battle, you’ll get a very different answer than from somebody not in the middle of a war.

We aim for objectivity, and part of that means not letting battle tactics bias our interpretations of the rules.

I’m very sure. My out-of-game contributions to IC far outweigh my in-game presence. That’s been true ever since I managed EOR Awards.

It’s kind of tough, because there’s been so many moderators, but yeah I can name one. More than one even: Universal Mob and Altruist were both widely feared but also Moderators. Sogil in particular was very brutal in-game, but had a great sense of humor about it and was well liked.

@Undeath even got some heat last year over a similar situation, and while this was after I took over, I didn’t hire him.

Speaking of that one, you can see this same argument play out in the linked thread. Your presumption about in-game mod expectations isn’t an uncommon one. There are other people who feel the way you do about this, but they are also misguided in their assumptions. Sure, most Moderators were nice in game, but it was never a requirement.

People say ā€œdon’t treat mods differently than players, that’s favoritismā€ until they see a Mod in a galaxy playing, and then they want to treat mods differently. It’s ridiculous.

If they are not insulting you or otherwise breaking rules, then yes that is absolutely correct.

It’s a war game.

Story telling was a part of the game back then too! Too bad all the old posts and family legacies are mostly lost and forgotten.

When it comes to being feared, Eveal and Erehwon of Spaceborne were a deadly combo in the beta rounds. Altruist of the Harkonnens has always been a top notch player. Having played with Starstrike once though, he was the one player I’d never want to get on the bad side of in this game.
