Milkyway 66 review

That although I somehow lost a zillion forum tag points, only @I_like_pie has a higher rank than me - honestly, that is fair.

I didn’t play.

Fair and fun.

No one has made any point for drafting except wah wah wah I need my friends.

No one has made any point for not drafting except wah wah wah teams will be too stacked.

My main reason for wanting drafts is so I am not stuck in an inactive/empty family after a full reshuffle.

If we can get the number of families right and merge/delete families before round start then I wouldn’t have as much of a problem with no drafts but nice to have at least a couple to replace inactives

I took a shot at setting up something cool, and then once committed everything changed.

Fam totals got cut in half.
Subsequently fam sizes grew out of hand.
Gala rules were not “majority rules” voting (it was default minority reduction - eew).

People who want to play together usually do a hell of alot more teaching than people forced to play together.

The fear that “families will be to stacked” is a bland admission that:

  1. You are not well liked by players that are good.
  2. You are likely really not that good either.
  3. You are not willing to bust your ass and be so fucking stubborn that “big bad fams” leave you the fuck alone out of fear.
  4. You are a bitch.

I assure - if you are good enough, and play hard/smart/both you can beat fams waaaaay bigger than you.
You start busting up big fams (more or less) solo other people will want to play with you.

Sure you are a target next round, but by then, if you can make yourself that good you will have fucking friends.

Ain’t no friends in the game like people that watch you come to another families aid just because you have a sense of honor, and the brains / time / skill to make an impact.

Non drafting (reshuffles) have always been tests of great players.
It used to be traditionally 3 rounds between reshuffles.

You played hard round 1:
Killed out the idiots (well that was me, other players would teach them).
Kept you fam clean, and trained the people that wanted to learn.

Round 2:
Most of the “great fams” had all kinds of way to get their buddies in their fams so you were facing full on teams of experienced players.
You outplayed them, didn’t cheat, and drafted a few other guys you met the round before that were also fighting hard. Chomp_On_This is a perfect example. He was no mega player, but he didn’t give a fuuuck, never busted his honor cherry, and never backed down - flight or fall.

Round three:
You got a few more drafts, and really went and picked up guys that could rock a real roll.
Themes actually become really fun.
Chat is awesome.
Them and their Illegal chain Tri-Alliances?
Bitches - your new and nasty friends pig fucked them because they were paper, and you team was fucking iron.
You didn’t break naps.
You didn’t break rules.
You paid your fucking planet comp.
You planned your wars.
You had a fucking blast.

Just sayin.

And while I be riffing a bit…

This is exactly how I met:
Pie
Random
Chomp
Ved
Suicidal
Constitution
Slifty
ICD
Pitbull
Talic
Oracle
Primo

All of these guys I met on the field and either drafted, or allied in future rounds.

Sure they became their own men, but all of them did (at one point) play with honor, and played fucking hard - you just had to respect 'em.

If I was willing to play that hard again I would look for guys with an edge that really can really play, just need to buy into a system.

Cells would be a great example:
He is actually a fine player, you get him to buy into what you are doing 100% you have one of the best in the game right now. If I would have known him back in the day when I had a chip on my shoulder - I would have taken him just for his general skill and wicked temper.

Drones would be bad ass too:
You get him in a fam where he is allowed to flourish, and let him play his round he would be there for you @ 4:00 AM to trigger 3000 present 1 trannie fleets he sent 4 weeks ago you knew you would need because you studied the fucking map.

It has always been like this, you wanna make your mark.
You want people to fear or (in Pie’s case) respect you?

You gotta put in the time.
You gotta push the game.
You gotta push the market so hard you see the “Jennifer Screen” (it’s there bitches).
You gotta practice 1000 fighter runs a day for the 9 FUCKING MONTHS a reshuffle used to mean on a good leader’s home planet because you KNOW his air was hidden.
You have WAAAY more trannies ready at all times.
You gotta risk shit.
No one knows everything.
Always be thinking about something else you can try.
Always be trying something you thought of.
If people want you to play “their way” fuck them - go play your own way, or play with them - just know what you are about.

You can be successful in any fucking situation if you really want to.

The best player I ever knew once said:
“You could take race with all negatives, no ops, and no specials and if you play enough you will win the round”.

So to whit:
@Imperial_Conflict @TheBigOne @I_like_pie
If you really are a modding these days…

Don’t manipulate Uni to be a round you want, or leave it up to luck:

1. Give people the (eternal?!) option to leave their fams.
If I can kill them out, they should be able to leave. Duh, wtf?

2. Add a few drafts per fam.
You had a reshuffle - people were trained, friends were made, foes were made, and leaders rose to the top. Let those guys bring in people THEY think make their fam better - role players, that one resources that the fam needs, that Pax that will mico pop for 'em, an attacker to go with their 4 bankers, or that ( @I_like_pie ) plucky diplomat that made you pay for every inch of ground you took from him.

Take your finger off the basics a bit - work on adding new features that enhance play.
** SN was a fucking brilliant idea for a Gala.**

For the people that don’t get drafted:
You like the game? Get the fuck back in and make your mark.
Start your own family from the goddamn dust.
Get a fam where you listen to the leaders, and are hungry to help.

That same great player told me…
"Sure, you are god there man, but the MW is the game".

I literally love all of you.

Stop being pussies.

Speak of the devil! ^^^

Meh little Muncher traitor Static-X.
Sucha good fucking banker for us.

You and Thijs really filled out those fams.
Picked you guys up Round 2 of a reshuffle.

:heavy_heart_exclamation:

A mess of Bringer attackers and 1 single Muncher banker was enough to blow the Borg out of the game in one round.
Good times.

@Darrk dude your making me wayyyy too nostalgic. I definitely played a round with umbri, i remember just listening to everything he said reverently lol. Seriously!
But he was for sure leader and im pretty sure we were there together for 1 round which i played under umbri.I went back to tortuga nebula pirates after.

And no you were not a newbie, i was the newbie. Im pretty sure it was with impire and you where we had a longer stint together. it was that time we made a few fams together. Played quite a bit with imp. I still got his race saved lol “soilders of impi” haha. All i know was irc was damn fun and we talked alot of shit and it was damn fun.

  1. What was your least favorite part of the round?

Starting out with unequal sized fams. There were 17 empty spots SOR! The two 7 player fams have 112 extra expos each weak compared to most 5 player teams. Expos and starting stuff should be a fam resource at start imho. With this unequality there are hardly any surprises for round win.

  1. What was your most favorite part of the round?

Seeing @Exposed doing large construction builds for our fam. Untill we met the 03 hammer our 5 active players managed top 3 in size and nw.

  1. If you had 1 wish for the next round in this galaxy, what would it be?

Equal size fams and equal resources at start.

Side note:
Nap bug anyone?

  • What was your least favorite part of the round?
Fam inequality, as @The_LiGhTgUnS said huge advantages for the families that had 7 players.
  • What was your most favorite part of the round?
    didnt really have one
  • If you had 1 wish for the next round in this galaxy, what would it be?
complete overhaul of the way families are made, war happens and naps work

I think having team captains drafting from a pool of players is the best way to make balanced families.

Could do it like in sports right? Assign a captain per fam (typically I’d say the leader or so). Giving them the chance to lock 1 or 2 players.
Give each fam 1 or 2 free drafts, and then pool all players wanting to play next round, and have the bottom leader pick one first, move up the ranks, and then back down.

Yea sort of like we did with IC playground, just more fams this time.

Really good idea.

good ideas but again, how big teams are we talking about?.. if u wana do 7 man teams again… u wont have enough seasoned players with time to get these crew’s organized :stuck_out_tongue:

WHY not try with smaller teams that are easy to organize and there will be alot of fighting etc…
