Ravaged by war, a lone fighter traverses the emptiness of space. The remaining crew share the last of their rations, grateful to have survived battle long enough to fear death by hunger.
They can’t help but wonder, what was it all for? Do we live only to serve and receive death? Is the cold loneliness of the void the only respite from the heat and turmoil of battle?
Alert of an incoming transmission breaks the melancholy, startling the crew. A supply ship is en route to deliver fuel and supplies, but from who?
The transmission continues, and the crew learn they are the subjects of a recovery mission from a collective of peaceful empires.
The crew stare at at the speaker, and then at each other, torn between relief and incredulity.
A different path appears ahead, where the past is forgiven to build a harmonious future. They have found themselves amongst the enlightened, where war and destruction gives way to peace and prosperity.
The transmission comes to an end, with a single question.
“Would you like to join us?”
