Below is a classification of the many different types of drinker one can be and their traits. It’s possible someone doesn’t belong 100% to one category but is a combination of 2 or maybe even 3. But usually there’s a category you belong to most. I belong most to the Weekend drinker category. Which is yours ?
- Social “drinkers”
Not really drinkers at all. Will only drink at a social gathering and usually stop after they had 2-3 drinks.
- 4 can Van Damme’s
They will drink alone but stop as soon as they start to feel tipsy aka when the fun starts. Stops after 4-5 cans, hence the name 4 can Van Damme.
- The hipsters
Gets off on craft brewed beers, IPA’s mostly, and looks down on more common beer drinkers who consume them in big quantities. They are basically 4 can Van Damme’s but with fancier beers and an attitude.
- Habitual drinkers
Made a habit out of drinking. Most days for them are drinking days. However they rarely go so far as to get drunk. They average 7-8 beers on their drinking days. Habitual drinkers are usually blessed with a beer belly.
- Weekend drinkers
Only drink in the weekend but when they do they go all-in. Abstaining from alcohol all week makes them feel the rush much more than habitual drinkers and so they often end up drunk or some cases even shitfaced on weekend days. Depending on their abilities this can go from 15 beers to 25+.
- Alcoholics
They are basically the combination of a habitual drinker and a weekend drinker. Drinks as much as the weekend drinker but does it daily.
Very well done. During the week I like having a few beers. Some nights I may finish off whatever is in the fridge. Weekends I can go hard. ,But seldom get shit faced.
Your research and I commend the effort made in this post.
I think you have covered most types, one suggestion would be “the lightweight” like myself. tipsy after one drink, drunk after two and no fun to be around should more be consumed.
Either I’m too drunk to find it or it doesn’t exist but apparently you can’t edit posts. So I will add the new category suggested by @BobtheBriliant , many thanks!
Edit: you can edit posts but not the post that started the thread apparently.

- The Lightweight
Tipsy after one drink, drunk after two and no fun to be around should more be consumed. Most know themselves and don’t exceed their limits but some never learn and rise in power level and become one of the next categories.

I’m a mix of Social and Weekend. I very rarely drink alone, and when I do with friends it’s either 2 or 3 drinks or it’s party time and i’m going until i can’t go anymore haha.
It’s much less often these days, and I don’t particularly recommend it, but I can’t deny that I love a cocktails and shots.
