I think it would be good to reduce the total number of families and have more players in a fam. It feels pretty bad to have your entire fam go inactive on you.
Yeah, definitely rough to lose even 1 fam member in rounds with 4 or fewer family members total (let alone losing 2 family members). I think these smaller fam rounds favor folks that can draft and ensure their whole fam can at least be semi-active.
This might not be completely accurate, so I’ll defer to the more seasoned players for this, but in my head, the rough breakdown I think of for sizing is…
2 - 4 members = small fams
5 - 7 members = medium fams
8+ members = large fams
And maybe the upper end of medium sized fams or larger is the way to go for now. Helps newer players hopefully land with folks that are active and can show them the ropes rather than landing in a small fam and potentially having little or no guidance.
I do think draft needs to be somewhat limited in the case of large fams, though. Maybe not entirely cut, but limited so as to prevent an entire large fam from being a tight knit group of vets that end up just stomping every other family where newer players may end up + ending the round in basically the first week.
