The problem being with this though is the active players expressing opinions in the forums who you count there votes are the ones wanting drafts
Average joes who want to log on and play a little here and there may read forums but generally won’t post on them
I’ve just come back from years away from IC and this full draft round I’m not going to bother playing , I played last 2 rounds and it was hard enough having mostly inactive fams but at least my opponents weren’t fully stacked
Now they will be all active and I’ll have even less active players to help me so no thanks to this round
When you stop the drafting and keeping the same players having their power house families I’ll resume
New players will be deterred as well like I’ve been , they will see same fams dominating and they will be left struggling and won’t enjoy it
Make the active good players be randomly spread around
That’s a good point about forum-active users, but it’s also a tradeoff. There’s a case to be made that the players who are most active in the community are rewarded by having a say in the round, vs those who aren’t as invested.
I understand you’re saying that you’ll leave because of full draft, but we’ve also had players in the past say that they’ll leave if it isn’t.
No matter what we do, we won’t be able to please everybody. That’s why we have the planning threads. Everything you’re saying right now would be a really good point to make during that time to convince other players to change their vote.
It does very little after the round is already decided. In the future it would be a great point to make during round planning.
I agree with both sides of this. Feels like there should be a middle ground here.

Posts after the round discussing the round options could be an important building stone for the game and the round settings. Obviously not before the round has even started as that comes off as whining about settings but maybe a week or 2 into the round opening and official post for discussion on the Pros and Cons of the current round settings and map choice. This may lead to better maps/more acceptance of map settings.

It may also be good to cater not just to the most active. Obviously give them their full draft here and there but let’s say this round is full draft, then the next 2 or 3 may be limited or no draft with no option for full draft. It can definitely be off putting to be a new or returning player to get stomped with no chance by stacked fams. Perhaps a compromise is the round after a full draft is a no draft round. Just thoughts.
Along with the opening of the gal thread next time, perhaps you could include your tally for options that were considered? It might help people feel more involved in the process to see the numbers and also encourage more participation if people understand how much their vote can effect things; in this case quite a lot since relatively few people chimed in for some of the options.
Regarding the map process, I think agreeing on a template for the maps to follow prior to creating a bunch of different instances would be helpful in focusing the effort. A template would include things like desired size specification and state expected requirements like balanced starting locations.
I don’t think full draft is a bad thing for Christmas, but do agree that it shouldn’t be used all the time and should mainly be limited to 1 or 2 spots total.
Regarding the maps, well the maps I made were simply ideas and me getting use to building maps, meaning they are ideas for future rounds.
I think Pie is right and that a place for people to put custom maps would be good.
Sadly the size / template of a map can change fairly rapidly depending on what people want. For example some people want to play on really small maps, where other people want to play on bigger maps. Sometimes people want small families, sometimes they want really large families all of which changes the template needed.
I think 1500 planets is to small where 5000 is a little big.
Now as stands around 3000 / 3500 planets would be the middle ground, but again all of that cab change depending on what people want before SOR.
i like xmodx’s idea’s of maybe limited to no draft after a full draft round
also how hard is it 2 have multiple galaxy’s going? when i use to play there was heaps on the go. Is it possible to have a full draft galaxy and then also have a no draft playing simultaneously ?
with only 40ish people playing? not possible… gone are the big party days of 400+ players playing at once
