The merits of talking badly about other players

I have been thinking bout my response to this and the other thread for about a week now. First off I am not going to respond to the other thread, if it makes the players still in that fam feel better to blame everything on me, then they can. But that fam was a shit show from day 1, and me being active or inactive would not have mattered either way,

As for the post in general and bullying in IC, that is where I want to spend my time. I have played this game since 2001, I remember sitting in my dorm room at 3 am raiding other fams, or skipping class because we had a war that was starting. I know I am not the easiest player to get along with, but it is never because I want to be number 1, the few times I have been number 1 I never asked for it, the fam just gave it to me. I play the way I do because I want whats best for the fam at all times, and I feel like I have to assert myself for that to happen at times.

I have never been the best attacker, banker, or eco planner, but I know enough of all 3 to be dangerous.

My issue with the post that was made, and with the game as a whole is that while it may be viewed as not being bullying, it sets up a situation where bullying can easily occur. I agree this game is based off of conflict but the level of vitriol and pure assholes are astounding.

I have voiced my opinion multiple times to pie and others on this. It is fine to request planets for an nap, or do farming, but when you get to the point where people are not able to effectively play the game because of these actions, or being killed off or marked rogue, or have posts like the original post made about them, then why would you continue playing? The lack of accountability in this game is what is holding it back in my opinion. Yes there are game play improvements, and I still believe that Pie is doing a great job when it comes to these, but the community is beyond toxic.

How can you expect to grow this game with a community that consumes itself on a daily basis, the community is killing this game.

Because of this I will be stepping away from this game until there is some sort of improvement on the social aspects of this game. I know Pie and the mod team cannot control everything but they can set the bar for what is required I also know that most of you will not give a shit. I have made a few friends in this game, and even met some in person. I have also made a few enemies. My hope is that for standing up for what i believe is right and wrong in this game it may start to make a difference.

You cannot continue to allow the negative aspect that is the IC community. You cannot expect to grow the game, when new players are preyed upon by the “vets” of the game.

Thank you for your time, thank you for the memories, and thanks for the friendships

Acrid I totally agree with you. It is not trash talk and is irrelevant to the game and only pushes players away.

I may not agree with some of the things you have done in-game but if a player so chooses to be ss or play a certain way he or she does not deserve to be harassed and bullied over it.

There is a fine line between trash talk and bullying and for some reason the mods allow it to be more of a scribble . I don’t mind being called a name or told I suck but there is a lot that is said that should not be allowed and has nothing to do with the game witch makes it not game trash talk.

The thread made about you was made to troll you and should not be allowed in ic. If one player does not like you they shouldn’t be allowed to push the player out of playing the game. I know most will say it’s just a game and yes it is so keep it to the game and not harassing and trolling players.

We have all done this and I use to be the worst for It. That being said I have seen many players leave do to my old bad attitude and changed because of it.
I’m truly sorry for the players I pushed away and if mods can’t see it only hurts the game “hense all the old vets still leaving ic since pie has bought it”

And yes use will say just ignore it you don’t have to read it. Well if somone tells you there writing about you don’t you think you would be curious to see what’s being said? No you don’t need to reply either but for some that may be hard to do when offended. The issue isn’t the person reading it the issue is the post or article being wrote in the first place

oh my i agreed with you…theres a first step

You guys have some good points, but there are a few things that need some clarity.

There’s a lot of trolling and harassment that people never see, because the mods’ job is to make sure you don’t see it. People sometimes have ideas like “the mods can’t see it only hurts the game” while the mods are doing their jobs.

The issue isn’t that we don’t have any standard, it’s that not everybody agrees with our standard. That’s completely fine, but just as it harms the community to allow bullying, it also harms the community to censor any post that is critical of another player. We want to avoid both of those things.

The thread made about Acrid was not a troll thread. It was a player describing events within the round from their perspective, with a focus on a negative experience they had with a particular player. It wasn’t pretty, but it was a description of in-fam issues that also weren’t pretty. There were troll posts and personal attacks that followed, but those were deleted.

This is very accurate, and the mods did their job well by controlling the bullying that did occur. This is proof that things are working as designed.

If our goal was to remove even the potential for bullying, we might as well just remove the forums and chat entirely. That’s not our goal though, which is why we have forum and chat moderators in the first place.

A scribble is accurate. The “for some reason” you’re describing is the nature of interacting with other people. Things are rarely black and white and the mods have a difficult job in calling the difference between players criticizing each other and harassing each other. As far as I can tell though, they’re doing that job well right now.

@Acrid I’m sorry to hear that you’re leaving, but I want you know that we are actively working towards making the community less hostile while still supporting player freedom.

You guys have both provided valuable feedback, thank you.

I have no issue with how the mods are doing there job. My only issue if it is not irrelevant to the game then it is nothing but harassment and trolling.

Now about the thread made about acrid … Yes the thread was made about things acrid may have done but the thread was directed to bash him personally and should not have been done but that’s just my opinion .

Interesting… If you can’t call out a guy like Big Gary or Cameroon/Cameron then all hope is lost, someone going rogue with the bank can ruin a round in a tick. Remember how you guys could easily trigger Render? lmfao! Good times brothers, good times.
