Slower IC Galaxy

Haha, I think a better approach would be one minute tics, where you cannot be attacked unless you are online. This way you can hop in, grind on your empire, make some attacks against other online empires, log out and go to bed /work worry free.

That sounds like an interesting idea too.

No harm in trying both.

I can see the appeal of slower galaxies, but finding a slower speed that enough people like could be tricky.

I wouldn’t mind a half speed galaxy myself, but anything slower you would probably want to change build times, as people have already mentioned.

This makes a lot of sense to me. For most n00bs, logging in once, doing a thing, and then logging back in the next day to see that everyone else is miles ahead must be dispiriting.

Getting more players in, and making it fun for them is a great thing for us all. Mantharo would be a great place to start.

I knew a Swedish programmer named Stefan who was into gaming. I know it’s a common name, but I’m wondering if it’s the same guy. What was his last name?

I hope I’m not tossing a bomb into a can of worms here, but reading this topic has reminded me of a thought I had: What about some kind of tick speedup bonus that’s granted upon reaching a milestone or accomplishing something? Or on the flip side, a tick speedup bonus to level the playing field if a player is statistically behind in some way?

I’m still relatively new here, so just pat me on the head and smile and nod if I’m just talking pure gibberish.

Love the idea, with a few refinements around tick times, construction and travel speed.

This is my first round back in ~15 years, as one of only two attackers in a fam it requires v high activity levels, I’m enjoying it for now but also feel I won’t last more than another round.

Just an example - having a portal that takes 10 ticks instead of 30 to build but with a tick time 3 x as long keeps roughly the same overall build times but means I only have to log in once every 3 hours to check I haven’t been ravaged and kick off new builds.

Granted, I’m too tired to think through all the issues and counter-arguments

This will be made possible by either or both of these planned features:

Whichever comes first will allow us to test this concept on a custom galaxy, and decide if we want to create a standard galaxy for it.
