This type of statement is often repeated by frustrated players when they lose a round. It’s an easy jab to make, but rarely backed by any data and is easily disproven.
But yes, what you describe is fair game. Despite your preference against it, we support player freedom to play a highly social game with few restrictions.
Than let me rephrase, if I look at the current number of players in SN (29 empires) and MW (49 empires), I’m pretty sure that’s less compared to last time I played. I remember SN had more players than it has now.
Based on those number, it is less. Obviously I can’t see if the visual decline is correct because I can’t see how many empires only play in the testing gals and other type of rounds available to VIPs.

Milky Way was reduced to ~50 players by design, and while SN does have fewer empires, many of them were shared across master accounts. In other words, while the empire-to-account ratio might be smaller (you forgot to include Manthano empires), the actual number of people playing hasn’t dropped.
That’s also not accounting for the hyper server, which has 25 active empires right now. These are all public galaxies btw, not testing or VIP.
So based on those numbers, it is more. You’re conflating empires with user accounts. They are not the same thing.
I could get into the data all day because, well, that’s my job and I’ve been doing this daily for almost 2 years now. The idea that IC has lost players due to some recent lowering of norms is objectively false.
