In my opinion, this round (56) had alot of the feel of a classic round.
Good explo wars, good post explo wars, lots of action.
Completely changing the format (exactly what this is) - will not give you āan old school feelā.
You will be in a large family - but the actual round week by week will be really ducking boring after the first fight, and that fight will happen fast.
All the map drama of multiple families? gone.
All the fams that made the first two weeks fun? gone.
All the naps that allow shares to happen? gone.
Market (which had life this round!!)? gone
You will gain having alot of people in family chat, but I do not see how this is an old school uni setup.
2-3 fams?
Imho - this is simply a regression of progress.
If this uni had a nice activity spike, why would would we change the whole format?
Thees feels like planting a dozen roses 
and then parking a cruise ship on top of them.

I am not sure who you are targeting this at due to it being the end result of an on going discussion (I hope that made sense). All I can respond to it with is defensive nonsense so I will keep it short.
It was impossible for me to have proposed an old school feel so that rules me out of that argument.
The 3-4 families ideas was actually meant as a short term fix to the inactive families whining about losing the round (my family is actually included as a whining one because we only had 3 real people in it for a good couple of weeks).
After the original idea went up on the forums for a public discussion, it came to our attention that the previously proposed idea (that also made it into the setup for 57 discussion), about playground style family choosing, would have outplayed the 3(-4) families in the game. This lead pie to post a poll to see who actually wanted to be a captain/leader to command a large number of players in a family.
After however long the poll has been up (on phone so not checking) we still only have 3 definite players that would like to be leader and then we have a few ideas to who we can nominate as long as they are willing.
After typing all that I had sort of lost track on where I was going with it so I will stop here with one last conclusion.
I will take your word that it is going away from the old school feel but I counter that with, ācan we change the wording to āTry something newā?ā
And THAT is my two cents (literally, I am in France haha)

My opinion of this has grown considerably since the discussion of it has started! 
Merely sharing my thoughts on the topic as they have evolved.
I would prefer 5 fams - however I am a single vote, and only three people have chosen to lead.
2 Fams, 3 fams, 7 fams, whatevs. 
I am rather looking forward to playing in MW-57.

I mean really, there is some old school things you do get with 3 fams.
You do get:
An active fam chat.
More variety of races / utility in the family.
High activity of non-top players.
Familes:
ICD - Established MW power.
Darrk - Established MW power.
LiGhTgUnS - Beat the CRAP out of Balius this round. Lookin to get up off the porch and rumble with the big dogs.
You have two doods who run diff SoR strats, races, and philosophies - who are established and know who they want to draft. You also get LiGhTgUnS thinking he has an angle that is good enough to run with us. I mean that alone is +10 Awesome Points imho.
All that, is very classic, and will make a fun round.

Totally willing to give it a go, not sure about how much fun it will be if we have to play it for 6 whole weeks.
Doing this so it is fun, and fair - requires correct Round Options!
