I definitely wouldn’t expect any changes soon.
With my idea, I think around the 1k planet mark would be a good place to start looking at.

If I joined today and saw a potential enemy in my home system, I wouldn’t waste me time with the round… I think a new section should be opened soon and explo times from the original section to the new one should be huge… 7 RL days at least.

That sounds like what we had going on in the alpha: vast stretches of undiscovered territory in between already-populated sectors.
That’s quite a ways farther out, but I’m hoping sooner than later we can get some of the other stuff worked in to mix things up.
Any chance we can bring back vacation mode for this galaxy? With a galaxy that lasts forever I don’t want months (or years) of progress to be erased because I got auto deleted for not signing in for 7 days or whatever the current limit is. Also, if I wanted to take a month off or two it would be nice to have my empire in tact when I come back.

Yep, this was originally going to be solved by Empire Surrender but I am looking to work in a quicker short term fix to prevent deletions.
No ETA yet, but sooner than later for sure.

i was attacked by someone more than 5 times my networth, i thought there was supposed to be some protection depending on size difference? also the planets were destroyed by my forces, yet they are now occupied by others?

Yes, within Infinitum there is expected to be a threshold under which an empire can not be attacked. That has not been implemented yet though. There used to be such protection based on NW many years ago, but apparently that broke or something.
